Here are my notes from Hyo-Jin-nim's speech Sunday 03 February 2008. My ability to convey what was actually said is limited. These, at most, convey some sense of what Hyo-Jin-nim said and are not a verbatim record. To see projects that Hyo-Jin-nim is working on log on to: definingmoment.tv and www.canaanstation.com

Rev. Andrew Compton is the MC. All welcome Hyo-Jin-nim and Yeon Ah-nim and offer a standing bow.

Hyo-Jin-nim bows to the audience as he approaches the stage.

How is everybody? (Good, good morning!)

Good morning.

When you think about love, what is love?

You will die for love or you will kill for love.

It can happen, right?

When you really love something, it makes you want to die for it; at the same time in the extreme opposite, you will kill for it.

That's what love is. Right?

And everything that exists under the Sun pretty much has that extreme stemming from it.

Why is it like that? -- Why is it like that?

Is it for you, or it's me; it's that stuff. It's that struggle; it's that basic struggle. (From this point Hyo-Jin-nim speaks with much emotion and tears.)

I'll die for something, or I'll kill for something. It's that stuff.

It's "we" or "I" because when I'm dying for something, it's not "me" it's "we."

It's as simple as that; everything starts from that. And that you need to know how to answer. That's your quest in this short life.

However (long do) you think that you can live. IT'S SHORT! IT'S NOT LONG ENOUGH FOR ME!

I know I'm dying, getting closer to my death than to my living, and that's for SURE!

And that is the truth that I can never deny.

And that's how it begins.

Know what you want to do with that life.

Is it going to be "we" or is it going to be "I"?

You make the choice, and understand that life is what you got, and what you got it isn't that much.

And that's where we're equal. It doesn't matter what you got; it really doesn't matter.

Okay.

You have to do your own thinking.

Look, I'm not going to read a story book for you. Okay?

You make your own stories; that's your life.

You write your own songs. You write your own stories.

That's all we do. That's the best we can do. And hopefully somebody can be inspired by it.

Okay?

All I can do is what I do. That's it.

It's up to you.

So you take care. Okay?

I'll be gone for a few weeks so I'll see you later when I come back. Okay?

Take care of your self. Okay?

(Taps podium twice)
